Matapalo is off the beaten path where you will find tranquility and wildlife. The monkeys visit daily, the bird life is incredible and sloths hang out in the mango trees.
Playa Matapalo is located between Quepos (Manuel Antonio) and Dominical on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It is less than 30 minutes to Quepos and 20 minutes to Dominical. There are many very good restaurants right on the beach and in the village of Matapalo. There are waterfalls and the Hatillo warm springs located within an hours drive. Horseback riding is available on the beach and ziplines within 30 minutes drive.

To get to Playa Matapalo from San Jose airport, follow the highway signs to the Pacific via Jaco Beach. It is about a 3 hour drive. You will drive past Jaco on Route 34 and continue towards Quepos. Bypass Quepos on Route 34 and follow the signs towards Domincial. You will go by the hospital and Quepos Airport on the left hand side outside of Quepos and then you will go through a number of small towns, Roncador, Mona, Maritima, Pasito, Portalon and then Matapalo. Take the turn off on the right to Matapalo. You will drive through the village past the soccer field on the right and over a small narrow bridge. Take a right towards the beach right after the bridge. Follow that road to the ocean (about 2 km) and turn right- in about another kilometre you will see the castle on the left.
If you are driving from Liberia airport, you will drive south on highway 1 until it reaches highway 34 and then follow instructions above.
